Introductions:
I have been in love with this VR4 ever since it 1st came
out in the late 80s. However I was still at high school at that time and would not have
the money to buy one. I again looked at a 2nd hand one in 1994 when I had
my 1st full time job but the price was still to much for me. Until last
year (2000) when I decided to buy a car for daily use, I was considering a
few things like, budget, type, etc. My budget only allowed me to choose a
very few models which was either a Galant VR4 (E39A) or older BMW 325i
(E36) as I was
mainly concentrating on either Rear Wheel Drive or 4WD car. I looked at
quite a few different samples over a 3 months period and finally I have
noticed that BMW was out of the question as it cost a lot more than a VR4
and parts for repair are very expensive.
I looked at about 6 different
VR4 before I purchased this one that I am driving now as all the rest were
either badly rusted, involved in big accident or asked for too much. This
current one that I am driving has an amazingly straight body with only
minor damage on the front bumper. The guy who sold me this car promised
that the car has 100% straight panels. However he did not tell me anything
about the mechanical condition. I took the car for test drive and noticed
that there was black smoke from the tail pipe. Thought it was only leaky
injectors, so I bought the car but after a week driving it with new
injectors installed, problem was still there and noticed this time that
the valves have problem. 4 valves were bended. Anyway I ended up spending
3 months fixing the engine and gearbox which now run nicely.
(My VR4 which was made in 1991 for the Japanese
market. It carries a Cyclone Engine. Originally use a set of yellow coded
510c.c. injector. Light weight front and rear bumper. Air vent on bonnet.
Climate control air-conditioning. Big intercooler.)
